Ascent: Overview
With the growing demand for three-row SUVs in the new millennium, Subaru entered the segment with the debut of the Tribeca in 2006. Despite grand intentions for the SUV, the Tribeca failed to impress for many reasons beyond the fact that it barely resembled a Subaru. Its unique design, along with its mediocre engine and compact size, ultimately led to its discontinuation in 2014.
Every failure teaches a lesson, and Subaru took the failure of the Tribeca to heart and returned to the drawing board to design an SUV that would make up for the Tribeca's shortcomings. The answer finally came in 2019 with the debut of the Ascent, a three-row SUV with a more spacious cabin ideal for families of all sizes. The Ascent was already off to a great start.
Available in four trims equipped with the boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive, the Ascent continued to get better with each model year and gave families a stylish alternative to the cumbersome minivan. The Ascent's debut in 2019 meant very few upgrades to the 2020 model aside from new standard safety tools and an extended suite of convenience features depending on the trim. These features expanded once again in 2021 with the addition of LED lighting, premium interior finishes, and flexible seating configurations for further customization for second and third-row passengers. Once again, this made the Ascent an attractive option for families looking for the reliability, versatility, and dependability of the Subaru brand.

2022 Subaru Ascent
Subaru proves that the Ascent only gets better with age after the debut of the award-winning 2022 Ascent. What's truly remarkable is that the Ascent lineup keeps the same affordable price tag while adding the beautiful Ascent Onyx Edition to the lineup. This transforms the Ascent into a sophisticated and youthful SUV that boasts a black finish exterior, black badging, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a host of interior features, including the Subaru StarTex water-repellent material that's easy to clean and extremely durable. The Onyx Edition also adds a host of technology and convenience features, including push-button start, keyless access, a heated steering wheel, a power rear gate, and Reverse Automatic Braking. Optional add-ons include a panoramic moonroof, Subaru's navigation system, and a retractable cargo cover.
Aside from the new Onyx Edition, the Ascent offers the same reliability and performance as previous models, courtesy of its 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine that delivers 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. This power makes the Ascent fun to drive and capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds. This power, however, doesn't come at the cost of efficiency, with the Ascent averaging 21 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway, which is exceptional for a full-size SUV.
When you're behind the wheel of the Ascent, you'll have access to the latest technology, from Subaru's infotainment system and smartphone integration to its suite of safety and driver-assist tools. You'll find the high-resolution touchscreen gives you access to your smartphone via Apple CarPlay and Android Audio, as well as HD Radio and SiriusXM All Access Radio. As far as safety, you can rest easy knowing tools like Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are constantly working to enhance your view and minimize the potential for collisions.
